1. Play Games
2. Restock
3. Snipe
4. Win contests
5. Be lucky and get a Random Event

Old timer here. There are pleny of detailed sites on pinkpt, so let me just point out some highlights:
Play games! Try each game at least one to see if it is something you may be interested in. Puzzle games or advertiser games can be an easy way to get points.
Don't worry about training your pets unless you want to battle. I spent thousands to boost my pet stats, but never battled, so it was a waste. If you get codestones, faeries, or dubloons, just sell them in your shop.
Check the shopwiz before selling things, especially starting out! Price your item for around the lowest price others are selling it. I make most of my money through my private store.
Get cheap food. Jellies and omellets are fairly cheap and good for two or three meals. Splurging once in a while is fine, but the pets will be just as happy with cheap fish from the daily fishing as they would be from rare foods.
