After many years I found a solution that really works all the time believe it or not. Take that brush on the long plastic handle that sits in the corner. You know, the one you clean the toilet bowl with. Ram it vigorousy a few times in and out of the bowl. Immediately the bowl will clear. Since the first time I did that I haven't used a plunger again. It works. This is because it pushes the obstruction through the line and clears it while all the plunger does is sucks it back up into the bowl to clog up again.Only thing is: after the water becomes clear you might need to ram it in and out a few more times to clean the ---- off of it.

First of all, find the valve on that back of the water line and turn the water off so it will stop refilling. Righty tighty. After that, I'd follow the other guys advice. Plunge away, try the stick or get a pipe snake, maybe even liquid plumber. But before you do anything else my Dad always would instruct the kids to turn off the water so it wouldn't continue to over flow. Good Yuck, I mean Luck :)

O.K., that's weird cause the same thing happened to me about a week ago. I don't know, but I think my stools were a little harder than normal. Anyway, the good news is I just kept flushing and re-flushing and after several hours the toilet just returned to normal all by itself. Haven't had a problem this week(knock on wood).

A plunger isn't for pushing; it's for pulling. You seat the plunger, with the air out of it, and suck the obstruction back up. Usually, obstructions are just 'things' mixed up together wrong. Sucking them back into the bowl is better for rearranging them than trying to push them down the pipe.

Use a snake or remove the stool and remove the obstruction. In the future, eat more fiber.
