vet tech is the only one that you can possibly make money in with room for advancement (CVT).
Other (feasible) ones zookeeping and animal training. Zookeeping is highly competitive and you usually need at least a BS, sometimes more. Animal training is feasible only for a dog situation. Pretty much impossible for any of the cool animals unless you move down to Disney world and take internships there.
Ultimately, I think the best job that gets paid the most and is most needed would be the vet tech. My friend, a year out of the vet tech program, is making about 25-30k a year with plenty of room for raises and advancements. I am going to vet school soon, will have 9 yrs of post highschool schooling, and the average vet salary for the 1st 5 yrs is about 30k. I am just a summer zookeeper and make about 3500 a summer, but the full time ones I know make about 20-25k a year, but do have good benefits.

I worked in a kennel for two years. If you like dogs it's a very rewarding job!
On the downside, you don't really have a tremendous amount of time to play with them, most people do not train their dogs to behave (I have light scars on my arms and legs from the claws of jumpers), you DO run the very great risk of getting bitten or worse, mauled (though I managed to avoid getting chomped somehow) and it's loud. In my case, there was also the stress of low pay and too few hours-- awesome boss though.
I now work in an office and I miss the dogs a lot. If my financial situation had permitted it, I'd still be there ^_^

You should persue schooling in pre vet at a community college that offers vet tech training. It is usually a 2 year training and you get certified by the state you work in. Some states the vet offices do not pay that well, but if you live in a larger city it does pay better and you can work up to positions at zoos.

if you want to get a real look at how animals are really treated look for a job at an animal shelter as a vet you see mostly loved animals that owners bring to you to because they love them at a shelter you see all the unloved animals no one wants any more hurt ,under feed . help them show them someone does love them unless it is all about money and not the animals it does not pay well

i worked in a racing kennels for over two years it was great looking after the dogs then parading them to race on the night . it was never boring cos there wasn't a set routine except for their meals so every day was different . i also worked in a riding school for four years that was excellent there was more of a routine than the kennels but i love horses . my favourite part of the day was exercising them that was brilliant . there is many different jobs with animals it just depends what type of animals you like to work with .
