I'd wait to see what happens. Of course, I'm not sure what the letter was about, but you said it wasn't threatening or vulgar, so what exactly would you go to the police with?

Go to the police. Even if there's nothing that they can do regarding the matter, they can advise you on what you should do. Sometimes it's better to have help than to ignore a situation and get hurt.
