The firing order is 1-6-5-4-3-2

From the front of the truck to the back, driver side is 1-3-5, passenger side is 2-4-6

If you have #1 at TDC on the compression stroke (not the exhaust stroke), the rotor should point at #1 on the cap.

Listen to mustanger he knows what he is talking about. Here is a little information that might help you: the rotor will be pointing toward number 1 spark plug wire terminal on distributor every second time top dead center comes around. If you don't understand this ,better hire some help. Good luck.

You need to spend a few bucks and get a motors manual for that beast. I've been working on cars for 50+ years. Everything from tuneups to frame off restorations and I don't mess with anything I don't have a book for. When you try to wing it you end up with a pile of mismatched junk and a hole in your pocketbook. The local auto parts store should have a repair manual that covers your beast for $20 or so. It's money well spent and will help you do the job right.
