Very good question.
Unfortunately, I think our insensitivity is very common.
Such overwhelming pain and suffering can make all but the most courageous turn their heads and ignore reality.
What makes it all the more egregious is the fact that we only seem to focus our attention and resources in areas where there's something in it for us.
Hopefully there will come a time when basic human rights and dignity are enough to bring all of our resources to bear.

i care, but my "fellow americans" dont really care. america as a whole will only help out a country or send troops out to a country that it will benifit from or develop ties from. If it will recieve items such as oil and political support in war ties. then..africa lets help ya out.
In Darfur, the people are dying, hurting, massacring, raping, and matryring and for what? America and other world leaders caused some of the choas when they decided to split the african countries in the late 1800s and group rebel africans together. Obviously if rebel religious groups will not agree and want the land for themselves. civil wars are provoked
So anyways, instead of being remorseful for "dividing and conmquering" America will continue to pay a little attention to the crisis because it is one of the few supporters of the war in iraq.
the other countries can fill in the shoes to help out africa.( we as a people are sick of deaths and most probally hate having troops in iraq for a lost cause but can do nothing.....)
America wont really care about africa right now until they decide that war in the middle east is over. then by the time millions of africans die, they will feel sad. and again attack other nations
I was born here. and love being American, but sometimes the "nationalism" and "heroism" is disturbing.

I never heard anything on Darfur on CNN or ABC or MSNBC only through the Internet.
Let's keep Internet Neutrality or else we may never hear about tragedies as in Darfur.

I care, but, most don't. Why? Because they have no direct connection to nor will benefit in any way by assisting those in Darfur. Sad, but true.
