When I burn a DVD (using Nero) it freezes at 3% burning at 16x or 12x for nearly two minutes before proceeding; which then goes at normal speed without freezing. What could be the problem?

I have reinstalled the program, and I have also tried burning at lower speeds using different burners. The DVDs I use are Sony AccuCore 1x-16x disks.

Could be anything but it might be the buffering relating to your system memory.
Is your computer has lot of system memory and able to do large activity like this?
There is nothing wrong with your DVD disc. Re-installing software doesn't fix that problem.

They have these drives that can read up to x52 now, but burning still requires a slower speed. I never could get good video at anything over x4 burning speed. The slower you burn, the better the quality, not to mention less problems during the burning process. Also try not to burn when your going to be busy on the computer, you want the program to have access to all the resources it needs......
Your computer is plenty fast enough, it could be your antivirus software. Many antivirus programs now do active scanning of programs, its called real time scanning, so when you start to burn the antivirus may be kicking in...... I have to open my antivirus and go to options and set it to not check certain folders, like my gaming folders, only for real time scanning, it will still check then when it does a daily, "on demand scan". It was when I minimized a game, opened task manager and noticed my antivirus taking up alot of the cpu that I figured all this out......Once I set it to not check the gaming folders, the games stopped glitching!
Its probably noting serious, but hopefully we get you going on the right track! Good luck.

It's likely converting the media to a DVD friendly format and your computer isn't fast enough to make it seemless. The first few % are usually just prep for the actual burn, things like verifying the media size, converting media if necessary, and prepping the tracks. Try burning a very small file to DVD and see if it makes a difference.

you may need to clean the lenses of your DVD drive with a Laser Lens Cleaner that is what it sounds like
if that isn't it you may need more RAM.
