I didn't take my Dahlias out of the ground this season, will they survive? I am in Zone 7

That all depends on the types of dahlias you have. Some varieties are definitely hardier than others, with the majority of the being hardy to about 15 deg., zone 8 if you will. There are a few of them that are hardy to 0 deg.. I live in zone 7, I never lift or mulch (not enough time!) and my experience, and that of a neighbor who grows hundreds of them, is that if they have really good drainage and are at least 5-6" below ground that they will do quite well. If I have mistakenly planted them in an area that didn't drain well in the winter, they have died...every time! I do try to find the hardiest of them, but I have somewhere near 30 of them that are at least 7 or 8 years old now that I have never lifted or protected.

Probably they are ok, but did you have a hard winter this year, if so is there about a 2" layer of mulch over them? (that you can remove now so they can start thinking about growing).
