I never heard of him in school or anywhere else. Heard a lot about Martin Luther King, though. The thing of it is, Medgar Evers probably did as much, or maybe even more for African Americans than M.L.K. did. Martin Luther King pretty much took over where Medgar Evers left off. Medgar started the NAACP in Mississippi and did a hell of a lot for getting schools in the area integrated and for securing the vote for his people. He was a great man. He gave his life to bringing about change in the deep south only to die from a sniper's bullet. Why don't we find his name in the history books? I don't get it.

WOW!!!!! ...I love your comment!!!! Medgar is in history books, those of us over 40,and black...know all about him...the Civil rights was a movement and he was apart of it there where many others with and before Edgar that did even more...We or you don't here about...Blacks use to complain when I was in school because there was "no black history,we in our community's knew who these people were but feared in time generations would not...this is also why we now have black history month..which is new, only about 7 or 8 years...also did you know, they dug up Medgars grave and he was 98% in tact perfectly preserved...and was almost identical to his son...they caught the man who shot him about,3 years ago...DNA...I am so glad to hear you ask this question....Martin Luther was a christian preacher who practiced and preached peace, and won the Nobel peace prize, but he did not "start the civil movement,he made it huge and tried to bring peace to a violent angry time...He is a representative,of the movement, not the movement...and he did play a huge role, but yes it was Edgar, you are right...he was shot down on his porch,at his home..oh they did a TV movie of Edgars life,it was very good try to find it on line it is accurate...

I'm glad that you are researching such people yourself, because if you wait for them to appear in history books, you'll never get the full story. The U.S. seems intent on portraying ethnic groups in a particular way, through the media, entertainment, and books, and anything that betrays that portrayal is generally avoided.

I've heard of him. He was assassinated in the summer of 1963. I think a few years ago they convicted his killer of depriving Evers of his civil rights. You're right though; we hardly ever hear about him. Maybe he wasn't the speaker that MLK was. However, I don't know enough to say for certain.

Like - in case you have been in Vietnam - have been you battling for WHITE human beings? have been you battling for RACISM. .. .. I many times see human beings at here who declare to be veterans - and systematically disparage our united states of america - and our citizenry - - - even our variety of government. To all - - - in simple terms on account which you served interior the protection tension - that doesn't supply you a pass to alter right into a traitor to our united states of america and our values. .. ..
