What exactly is the difference between samurai x and rurouni kenshin?
Where can i download the episodes of both for free or watch online?

Samurai X is made up of OVAs (Original Video Adaptions) that chronical the beginning, early middle and end of Kenshins' life. The art style is more dymamic and the action is MUCH more violent. There is tons of blood and death, and is far more dramatic than Rurouni Kenshin. The tone is very serious and there is no comedy in it. Samurai X explains all the things unanswered in Rurouni Kenshin, such as where Kenshin got his cross-shaped scar, how Kenshin earned the name 'Hitokiri Battousai' Where Kenshin got his reverse-blade sword, and why Kenshin stopped being an assasin and became a wanderer. Samurai X is worth watching and reading!
Rurouni Kenshin is the more family friendly of the two, more of a comedy/romance/action feel. Kenshin, for the most part, is a goofy, silly guy and this is a pretty funny series. It has some action to, but nothing like Samurai X. Kenshin has his moments when he is very serious and dark, but those moments are short lived. There's lots more character development in Rurouni Kenshin, but not as much depth.
Your best bet is to bit torrent everything, that is how I got all of my Kenshin and Samurai X anime. You can buy or downlaod the manga, but it's still worth it to watch the anime and OVAs

samurai x is what it was called in japan, they changed it to ruroni kenshin when it came to america, more specificly, samurai x are the 2 oav's trust and betrayal. from whne kenshin was still the battosai, then the anime was called ruroni kenshin. ( sorry it's kind of confusing)
