Degan is great. It's not too "different" & it's not "normal". Plus, it's a strong adult name. People forget that their kids grow up. Depends on your last name, but try Degan Jack, Degan Sutton or Degan Jerimiah. Good Luck!

I like Degan. It's cute. I don't know what you consider off the wall, but here are other unusual/usual names:
Ryder - Knight, mounted warrior
Drake - Dragon or Male duck
Dylan - Born from the ocean; son of the sea
Troy - Water or Footsoldier
Tate - Cheerful
Ian - God is gracious

Degan sounds like Vegan. Kind of effeminate.
Choose something strong, traditional and solid. His name will influence the way people perceive him to some extent. Why do you want to choose something "unique?" If you raise him well and teach him that he is unique with qualities and talents he can use to enrich his life why does he need a cutesy name?

It sounds masculine, but I don't really like it. It sounds like a good name for a highway. I've heard that name before. The Major Deegan Expressway meets up with I-95 in New York.
Keep looking. You'll find something.

How are you pronouncing it? It looks like Dee-gin to me, but it could also be Day-gin. Either way, I'm not crazy about it (so I guess the pronounciation doesn't really matter...LOL). You can choose an unusual name without making one up. My son's birth name (we adopted him) was made up and *very* odd, so we changed it by dropping out some of the letters and making it more "acceptable," but yet still not common.
Good luck and aloha :)
