I thought I was on the track to be an accountant when I was in high school -- mainly because I understood basic bookkeeping, found it to be pretty easy and I had heard that it was a good paying career. Then, during my sophomore year in college, I had a weekend homework assignment that should have taken me maybe 4 hours to complete. Instead, it took me all weekend. I would sit down to do a little of the work and pretty soon I was up and outside shooting some hoops or something. It was almost impossible for me to sit there that long and do the work. By the end of the weekend, I had realized that I could never do accounting work as a career.

just like any other profession it depends on where you work and who you know. If you start at a large company where you dont know anyone youll prob get stuck making dirt working 70 hours a week for about 10 yrs ($30-50,000/yr depending on your local standard of living). After that you may get a promotion and probably start clearing $75-100,000/yr by the time your kids go off to college.

There's an expression "If you love what you do youll never work a day in your life." If you like working with numbers i say roll with it, but who knows? I just graduated with a double major of Finance and Psychology and im joining the Navy bc i want to be a SEAL.

I wouldn't classify accounting as 'fun' work. It is very tedious and requires a high level of accuracy. It is relatively lucrative - in Seattle the starting wage for someone with a BA in Accounting would be $40k to $50k and the job market is pretty stable. You would always be able to find work in that field, as opposed to obtaining something like a liberal arts degree.
