My partner and I want to have a baby. I am 38 and she is 28. She is the better candidate and we cannot afford an insemination clinic. Can we do it ourselves w/ a donor? How? We have medical insurance and good jobs but it does not cover this type of thing. Information would be appreciated. Thanks.

My wife & I had a private donor & she did the insemination on me. If you would like more specific instructions feel free to e-mail me & I will give you the instructions on how to do it @ home for free & safely. Please DO NOT use turkey baster, it is not safe & the "old fashion" way is not the only way to do it & there are men out there who are willing to respect you both as a couple to not ask you to do that, we didn't have to settle & wouldn't settle for anything other than what we wanted, please e-mail me so I can get you the right info.

Hi,
make sure that you find a 'donor' who you would not mind having progeny with his characteristics....ask him if he would mind donating for you...the legalities here are that you could say that he is the father and he refuses to pay child support...so you may need to see an attorney to get some papers drawn up saying that he is ONLY the donor and had no parenting or financial interest in this endeavor...
if all this is OK, then determine when the ovulation time is for your partner...if her periods are 28 days and regular, the she should be fertile at day 14...
on day 11, have your donor donate a specimen...put the specimen into a turkey baster, insert the turkey baster into your partner's vagina and squirt...do this for days 12, 13, 14 and 15. after squirting...have your partner lay flat on her back for 60 minutes...wait 2 weeks and check and early morning HPT (pee on it)...if it is +, then you are expecting...
good luck

Well first you would have to find a donor, I would suggest looking into chat rooms and maybe place an add in the paper.

You would have to get the man tested to make sure he is healthy and has no diseases they type up an agreement like on your computer including information such as the man is in no way financially responsible for the child nor will he be a part of the child's life and stuff like that then the two of you and the man sign it and both take a copy.

This way later on the man cant come back and decide he wants to be a part of the child's life and you can not go after him later for money, I am not sure if you can but you may be able to get it somewhat legalized by having a lawyer review it and witness the three of you signing it.

I believe Melissa Etheridge and her spouse used a donor (David Crosby) and did their insemination at home. Keep in mind that if you find someone, you will need to not only ensure that he is free from all disease, but also work out what his involvement will be, if any, after the baby comes. You can also purchase sperm from a sperm bank, with the help of your doctor, for in home seminations. Your doctor just has to register with the sperm bank so that the bank knows you are under the care of a doctor. Then they will set you up with everything you need to do an in-home insemination. You will not personally know the donor, but you will be certain this way that the donor was free from disease.

Well, then you have 2 options--find a friend or someone to donate sperm to you or use annonymous donor sperm from a bank. The first option would obviously be the cheapest--just buy a box of Instead cups (www.softcup.com or at any wal-mart) and find a donor willing to give you some semen. You need to make sure the donor is clean of any STD's etc and is willing to sign a contract in reguards to custody. Chart your partner's cycles using BBT and ovulation tests and when she is ovulating insert the Instead cup filled with sperm and leave for 12 hours.
The second option, and the I one I would strongly recommend, is to us a sperm bank. Find a sperm bank that will deliver ICI sperm directly to your home--average cost is somewhere around $150-200 per vial and you should only need 1 or 2 vials per cycle.

Is it possible to do it the old fashoined way? I totally understand if not. It might be easiest though. Otherwise, find or fabricate a sterile syringe that will extend as far as possible into the vagina and inject the sperm immediately after your donor ejaculates. Be sure to use an ovulation predictor to ensure you are maximizing your chances. I went through infertility treatment with my husband and they used a similar method, except the tube used for injecting the sperm was inserted directly into my cervix. I don't know how you'd accomplish that at home without a speculum or the proper tubing. Good luck to you!

You will need a male to give you a clean sperm sample in a clean (sterile) cup.Next, you will need a large dropper or turkey baser.Have your partner lay on her back and insert the dropper (filled with the sperm) into her vagina as close to the cervix as possible.Eject the sperm and have her lay still for about 45 minutes.Preferably with her hips elevated(you may want to use a pillow under her butt to elevate her hips)Make sure you pinpoint ovulation before trying this,so you don't waste your time or sperm samples. You can pin point fertility with test kits at the drug store or charting Basel body temps.

Find a trusted male friend.
Ask if he's willing to father a child and the 3 of you decide what sort of involvement/responsibility he would have with/for the child.
Get the friend to make a "donation" on the day your partner ovulates, and use a turkey baster to inseminate her.
Good luck.

You can do it yourselves at home. You can buy donated sperm, that has been prewashed and tested. It is very inexpensive. If you know someone willing to be your donor, get him tested and go from there. It's basically the "turkey baster" method that you could do at home. Here is a link to a good website:

The only way you can do this at home is to have sex...with a guy. I don't think there is any at-home remedy for this sort of thing. I went thru the whole IVF process and trust me, there is no way to do it alone. And you should really check your insurance. You would be surprised how much infertility/fertility treatment it does cover.

Good luck.
