It sounds like there is something else going on. Babies love to be held and close, and you can't spoil a baby, especially a 6 week old. Is he gassy? Being on your back doesn't feel good if they are. Hungry? Wet? Hot? Cold? Some babies like motion, like walking around. I think that this also might be a security thing. Why isn't it ok for you to hold him more? He probably needs you right now...and in the bjorn, that should work, maybe it is too tight? You cannot spoil a baby, please dont think that. Trust me, I have a 5 month old, and as a new mom I was so worried that I would spoil her. But if you just love them and do what they need, it is much easier than fighting it.

YOU CAN'T SPOIL A 6 WEEK OLD...DON'T LET HIM CRY IT OUT THIS YOUNG!! IT'S NOT GOOD FOR HIS BLOOD PRESSURE....
It sounds like there may be another issue. Have you tried white noise, music and swaddling??
Do you know about Dr. Karp's 5 S's??
Swaddling - Tight swaddling provides the continuous touching and support the fetus experienced while still in Mom's womb.
Side/stomach position - You place your baby, while holding her, either on her left side to assist in digestion, or on her stomach to provide reassuring support. Once your baby is happily asleep, you can safely put her in her crib, on her back.
Shushing Sounds - These sounds imitate the continual whooshing sound made by the blood flowing through arteries near the womb. This white noise can be in the form of a vacuum cleaner, a hair dryer, a fan and so on. The good news is that you can easily save the motors on your household appliances and get a white noise CD which can be played over and over again with no worries.
Swinging - Newborns are used to the swinging motions that were present when they were still in Mom's womb. Every step mom took, every movement caused a swinging motion for your baby. After your baby is born, this calming motion, which was so comforting and familiar, is abrubtly taken away. Your baby misses the motion and has a difficult time getting used to it not being there. "It's disorienting and unnatural," says Karp. Rocking, car rides, and other swinging movements all can help.
Sucking - "Sucking has its effects deep within the nervous system," notes Karp, "and triggers the calming reflex and releases natural chemicals within the brain." This "S" can be accomplished with bottle, breast, pacifier or even a finger.

Just keep trying, he will get used to it eventually. I have a 5 weeks old and we have a bouncer, playmat and swing for him. In the beginning, he hated all and screamed every time we put him into it. Now he LOVES the bouncer, he is totally addicted to it, he sometimes doesn't mind the swing, although I don't think he is crazy about it, but he still hates the playmat (but the truth is that I only put him on it like once a week). Also, have you tried giving him a pacifier? I never wanted my son to have it, I thought it was a very bad habit, but one day when I desperately needed to take a shower and he cried every time I put him down, I gave it to him and it was like a miracle, it calmed him down and for an hour I didn't know he was there.

Just set him down even if he does cry and turns purple, I think he is mostley wanting attention, he is still a bit young. He will learn that if he cries all the time he isnt always going to get what he wants. I really wouldent know but I hope I was a little help

With a lot of things being made your of plastic, rubber and laytex, maybe it is irritating him. Try putting a blanket over the material and see if that helps (my sisters baby had a reaction to anything plastic). He is not be ready to sit up at 6 weeks old. Get a swing that he can lay down in, put him on the floor so he can lay down.

He's just trying to tell you he loves his mama. You definitely cannot spoil him by holding him. He's tiny and helpless...that's what he needs!
My daughter doesn't like baby swings either- we gave back the one we had borrowed. Since he doesn't like the Baby Bjorn, you might try a cloth sling instead. I love mine. It'll hold him securely on your chest, curled up like he was in the womb, and your hands will be free. They are available in a huge assortment of fabrics.

you can not spoil a newborn if hes crying when you put him down its for a reason. try lying him down flat on the floor, or a playmat, or in a playpen or crib. maybe sitting is uncomfortable for him. when he wakes up let him entertain himself for a while too dont just pick him up right away because hes awake. try sitting with him and talking singing to him after you put him down and then when he's happy and content then walk away, but if he does cry dont pick him up right away try singing again and talking and smiling to him so he gets used to it and learns that its ok to sit. if its a vibrating chair try it with and without the vibrations see which he prefers. the same with the swing try it on all settings for 5 min each even if hes crying see which one he stops on even try the swing not moving. maybe he doesnt like motion.

I'd get one of those mini-swings (the fold-up travel ones) because they're more supportive than the larger standing ones. The smaller ones lean back more and when my daughters were that small they loved it. It had a bar across the top (for travel ease) that you could push forward and it had lights on it and played music.
That would honestly be my best advice. I've recommended them to a few of my SAHM friends and they said it really did work wonders and since it's small and ready for travel they could take it places with them easily.
Here's the link to the travel swing I have -- http://www.babyage.com/products/1852jjp_graco_graco_travellite_infant_swing.htm

My son has a Baby Papsian seat and He Loves it. It sings and vibrates him right into a peaceful state. My brother was going to buy him this huge baby seat it looks like a bassinet that moves front to back side to side up and down, it sings, vibrates lights up and anything else you can think of. I know Target has it and Burlington Coat factory. I think the price was like $65.

Boy he is a determined little boy isn't he? Just keep trying hold unto your patience and keep trying. One of these days he will think it's so much fun you won't be able to get him out. Maybe you could try putting him in a stroller and just take him from room to room with you. I know it's hard. Hang in there.
