If your house is haunted you have nothing to fear. This sounds like the spirits are just trying to get your attention. If they meant you harm, you would have known by now.

As I said in your other question, just talk to them, ask them what they want and what you can do for them. Go to ghostweb.com and scroll down to their free articles and read the ones that apply to your situation, also if you need to email them and they will reply and help you.

I'd like to say you have a ghost, but there's one characteristic which doesn't sound right...

Animals usually are hostile towards ghosts, barking or hissing towards things we can't see. They also run around like mad, or refuse to enter the room. You dog shows a normal sort of reaction, whereas - your cat, I can't explain. Maybe it's not a hostile or evil ghost. Especially if your cat is reacting to it in such a way, it's showing it's enjoying it. I think maybe this ghost, is just trying to tell you it's there - not meaning to scare you or anything. The dog is probably reacting to it as a stranger.

How long has this been going on? And is your house old? Did you recently move into it? Do you have other animals in your house? (Dog's will usually be barking towards other animals, eg: rats). Do you know your house's history? Do you live with anyone else?

As for waking up at 4am, this can be due to 2 things:
* It's an interruption in your sleep, due to a biological clock response. Some people wake up, randomly at night when woken by a slight noise - or when some sort of light source comes into the room.
* It's sort of like a primitive 6th sense sort of thing. I've had this happen to me moments before an earthquake occurs - I wake up and find myself restless (animals also show this sort of behavior, only they start showing it days or sometimes even weeks before). I think some how, the human body detects this - and causes an immediate response. So in other words, maybe you're unconsciously sensing a presence there - causing you to wake up.

I think what you need to do to prove the existence of a ghost is note a few things down. You've already noted the animal behavior - so that’s great. Here are some more things you can do:

* Take photos: If you catch anything unusual in your photographs or even orbs, you'll probably come to the conclusion that you have some supernatural activity going on. (Note: Be careful with your analysis, as sometimes dust can appear to look like orbs). I suggest using a digital camera - as they give you the ability to delete unwanted photos, and have pretty good lens.
* Note temperature changes: Next time you wake up at 4am, make a note of the temperature. If it's unusually cold, you've probably got a ghost. (might help noting down smells and noises too).
* You can try to install a camera- and see if you catch anything that way. The best cameras are night vision or infrared ones as they are sensitive (and capture some of the best footage of ghosts)- though, they can be expensive.
* Watch out for the shadows: Don't get paranoid about this one - but keep an eye out for the 'darting objects' - caught from the corner of your eyes.

The moving around of objects is usually caused by Poltergeists - which are noisy and cheeky spirits. They are better known for being a nuisance - as they often throw objects around, and bang on the walls.

And finally, if you do find you have a ghost in your house - don't be afraid of it... unless they are causing you harm - then it'll be safe to move out (doubt it,as your cats seem to be getting along find with it).

You're definitely not crazy. More than likely, your house is haunted. I have had some personal experiences with paranormal phenomena. First of all, I would suggest for you to get a Bible if you don't already have one and it would not be a bad idea to have a priest bless your house. You can also try wearing a crucifix and placing several of these around your home. Also, it is very important for you and everyone in the house to pray constantly and the spirits will eventually have to leave the house. You can also try investigating the house yourself, by placing tape recorders and cameras around the house, if at all possible. This way, you will have proof of any paranormal phenomena that does occur. There are two possibilities; either the house itself is haunted or the spirits are following someone in the home. If the house is not new, try finding out the history of the home. The best thing to do is to pray and eveything will be okay. If these events continue to occur, you might try moving to a new house. Good luck with everything!

I once lived in a very old house that was haunted. Things got moved around, the TV would turn off, curtains would open after I closed them. I kept trying to come up with rational reasons for these things happening so I didn't feel like I was going crazy. Then the footsteps started. My sister witnessed with me the doorknob turning, and a few footsteps, but no one was there. One night I had just gone to bed and was not sleeping yet, and the footsteps came in my room and around the side of my bed. ( I had hardwood floors.) I suddenly had this feeling it was a man dressed in old military uniform. I felt like he was just standing there watching me. ( My eyes were shut tight ) I was so scared. Then something told me if I open my eyes he will be gone and he's not there to hurt me. So I did, and he was gone. I only lived there for six months. A couple years later, the house was on the front page of the local paper. It was the oldest house in the town and someone was moving it. They told the history of it, and this man came back from world war 2, built the house and lived there until he died. He was a bachelor. So, maybe he was just lonely.

This does sound a bit spooky. But which explanation would you find more comforting, a haunted house, or being a bit dislodged upstairs? I wish I could say it's neither of the two, and maybe that's the case. You could start documenting positions of things by photographing the house when you leave it in the morning or go to bed at night and compare later when you think stuff has been moved.
As for the animals... sorry, no idea what could be done. I wish you all the best.

Sounds to me like you have a spirit or some energy manifesting in your house. Animals are very sensitive to paranormal phenomenon. I guess as long as the "guest" is doing no harm it is not such a bad thing. Of course that is personal whether you mind sharing your space with this "guest". Perhaps you may want to consult a medium to see what the spirit wants or needs. This could be a very good thing.

To be perfectly honest finding answers to your problems of this kind here isn't going to get you answers beyond

1. Yes I believe in Spirits so you must be contacting a Spirit!
2. Or no it isn't a spirit, you're either crazy or just paranoid.

Find someone who falls into neither category, present your case then make a decision based upon it. Don;t take someone's word simply because it's what they say.

Not a good idea to try to contact spirits that are moving things around in your house. Could be something worse trying to trick you into inviting them in, in which case all hell could break loose.

Contacting a paranormal investigator, documenting positions of things (make chalk outlines), researching the history of the dwelling are all good ideas.

Wow! What an awesome story from the guy who posted 2 in front of me (son hammer and Mr. Walton etc)

Do you have a pendulum? If you do, swing it back and forth, NOT in a circular pattern. If it changes into a circular pattern, you may have something there. Also, use a cassette recorder to record your room when you or anyone else is not in it. DO NOT use a Ouija board. You could end up attracting nasty demons and they're harder to get rid of. Contact an area paranormal investigator, or if you can't find one, maybe these people might know of someone in your area. http://www.prsne.com/

I have never had any experiences such as the ones you describe, however I do believe in ghosts/poltergeists. Maybe research online how to get a reading of your home. I believe some do this for free. A club I hang out just had their building read, and I am quite sure they did not pay for it to be done.
