tachyons are only hypothetical. no one has has proved that they exist, but no one has ruled their existence out. tachyons may have many strange properties.
one property is that they ostensibly always travel faster than light, and if they lose energy (cool) then they speed-up instead of slowing-down. if they gain energy (warm) then they slow-down instead of speeding-up. no tachyon can ever slow to light-speed or lower, but i haven't seen anything about how fast one could go.
also, no one would see a tachyon approaching. someone wouldn't see a tachyon until it reached and passed him/her. if the tachyon had an electric charge then it wound cause a flash of light when it appeared, but all tachyons would then split in two pieces which are both identical to the original, and the two pieces would then zip off in opposite directions.

Do you mean tachyons? Einstein's equations show that no particle with mass can go at the speed of light but left open the possibility of particles that move faster than light called tachyons. I think the possible speed of these particles can approach infinity since the less energy they have the faster than light they go. So I don't think there is any upper limit to their speed. However scientist have never found any proof for their existence.

despite being only hypothetical resuslts when you plug negatives into einstein's eq'ns, tachyons would have a greater speed the more energy you take away from them. this is of course implying that they have a negative mass, but theoreically, i guess they could go their fastest (infinitely fast) with absolutely no energy.

Hi. Tachyons at absolute zero should have infinite speed, but absolute zero is not attainable. My guess is really, REALLY fast.
