How sweet it is. I am a huge fan of Sid the Kid having watched him grow up here in Halifax and look forward to seeing how far he will go in the NHL. As far as surpassing more of Wayne's records they will be extremely tough to come by. One thing about Sidney Crosby though....he will not quit. All the best Sid.

professional hockey is diverse now-decrease back in the day the Oilers would circulate out and score ten objectives and their combatants 8 and no person would think of that replaced right into a great deal. those days that could be seen a freakish hockey activity. The Oilers introduced the huge-open WHA type into the NHL and had various fulfillment with it previous to the capture era. it incredibly is no longer basically the objective tending it incredibly is diverse now. Even Dave Semenko controlled a dozen objectives a season whilst he performed with Gretzky. i'm no longer knocking Ovechkin, Gretzky or Semenko, yet basically the latter 2 ever performed in the WHA!

Sid is a great player, but remember, scoring now-a-days is lot different than it was 10 years ago
The assists are given out more freely and I think that Gretzky's 50 goals in 39 games is better measure of talent and his record, will forever stand as a benchmark to rate other players

Being the Youngest to break a record is somewhat over-rated.
While there are amazing things in store for that team if they stay together, and Sid is great for the NHL, he is still a ways off from good comapisons to Gretzky.
Congrats to him anyways, and I hope he continues his success. Fun team to Watch.

Sid is great and a nice boost for hockey right now. Gretzky was a more versatile player at this age. Just remember there can be no legend without longevity.

I love the Pens and enjoy watching Sid but I think his may be the only record of Gretzky's he beats. Do you think he is capable of scoring 93 goals in a season.? I predict you will see Sid ,Staal and Malkin all score 50 in the same season...

I'll admit, I absolutely hate Sidney Crosby (I hate Malkin more though), but him breaking this record and being as notable as he is, is helping hockey. There is now a player that is really a household name in the NHL and he's making headlines. And as much as I would hate to see the Penguins win a Cup, I think that would start bringing fans into the game because people will watch the Finals because "Hey, Crosby is playing", and possibly they'll watch the game the next few years.

Crosby has 98 points after tonight. Thats less than half of 200. Also, Gretzky was a better goal scorer than Crosby. Not that Crosby can't shoot, but his style of play is much better for getting assists and not getting really good shots.

Wayne's first year as a pro was in the WHA.
Gretz scored 110 points in year 1 of his career in the WHA, which does NOT count in his NHL totals.

Remember, Gretzky said that if anyone was going to beat his records, it is going to be crosby. and that's 4 years ago.
but honestly, i think gretzky's all-time record of points and assist will continue to stand.
