I've never had disk space issues before I tried to format and re-install Windows XP. I don't have any games or space hording programs on my computer and only about 4GB of music and photos. When I reboot, it does it like normal and does not ask me what OS to start (I've read that it does that when you have 2 OS's installed) What happened?

Disk degragmenter doesn't mention anything about partitions. It says the volume size is 55GB, used space is 55GB and free space is 146 MB. All I did was re-install Windows XP.

did you create partitions before installation. Check the total size of your C drive if it is less than 55GB. If there is another partition which is taking some space and not visible then it needs to be formatted.
control panel > Administrative tools > Computer Management > Disk Management
in the right panel you will see hard and its partitions. right click on unformatted partition to get the menu option of formatting

it sounds like you did, but you are not getting the 2 os option at the beginning. a second copy of xp should have only taken up another 5GB of space. my next guess is that when you reformatted the drive, you actually took the original space, unformatted it, and then accidently split it up into another partion with less space and then actually installed on that partion. if you look at disk managment, do you have 1 or 2 partitions, or do you have 1 partition, with an unformatted area on the disk.

the reason why any reproduction of Microsoft living house windows XP chews up confusing stress area is that it has a large database that means that there are many drivers that get put in for differant products alongside with scanners, mice printers etc. it truly is why once you plug in a gadget alongside with a printer living house windows XP immediately is conscious what gadget is pluged in to the USB port for examole. it truly is stated as Plug And Play. And thats why XP and Vista desire a lot area. God the others don't have any clue The question Is why XP makes use of a lot area?

Well if you re-formatted the drive,. It would of been empty. XP takes around 3gigs. Try running a disk check on the drive thru the options from the my computer screen, see what it says. Make sure you didn't make 2 copies of all your saved item by accident. Then I would try to de-fragment the drive and see what happens.

Go to Control Panel -> Add or Remove Programs and see what's taking up all the space. I'm sure some program in there must be doing it. Otherwise, you could manually look at the size of files within your main hard drive to look for what's filling it up.

Maybe it didn't get replaced with your old program and you have two programs there. Or check your hard drive. Delete some of the things you don't use.
