i have an 8 month old son and found out yesterday that he is developmentally delayed, i also have a 3 yr old who is perfectly fine. i dont know what to do now, how to react, what i should be feeling. he is intellectually perfect and in some cases advanced, but physically he cant sit up on his own yet, and doesnt try and crawl or anything. i need advice from someone who has been here, and knows what to expect.

My brothers child didn't start walking until two, she didn't start crawling until around a year. She is a college graduate now that completes in national horse shows. Just let your child develop at his own pace, it will be fine.

What are you worried about? He'll catch up. Don't make the mistake of listening to so-called experts who try to tell you what your child can or can't do. I have a son who is physically/mentally challenged. When he was 6 a diagnostician told me he would "never read or write, never go to regular school, never graduate, never have a job, etc". I just looked at her and said "who died and made you God?" Long story short, my son is doing all that. I NEVER told him he couldn't do something. He now lives a semi independant life, works, has friends, etc. What I'm trying to tell you is that your 8 month old son is no different than your older one, and that he is as much a gift as the older one. He will do fine, especially if you let him, and don't let anyone tell you different.

I think that you should let your son develop at his own pace. They know when they are ready. If he's healthy you have nothing to worry about. I have a 6 month and she can't sit on her own, she sits with support, she can't crawl either and I don't think she will any time soon. She's content with what she is doing now. Good Luck. If you are really concerned I would suggest you go talk to someone professionally like his ped.

He still could advance physically and mentally but only to a point. The road ahead could be quite difficult for your son and your family. I truly hope Im wrong.
