More about the history of Illinois and Boston capitals.
The capital of Massachusetts ever since the times of the colonies, has always been Boston.
The capital of Illinois, however has had three capitals in its 200 year history. Its first capital was Kaskaskia, a small town on the east side of Illinois. However, after the building of the National Road, the government in Kaskaskia decided to move it to Vandalia, a town more central in the state. After more states joined the union, the capital was finally to Springfield, where it lies today.
