Alright, well, I'm a tennis player. Freshman in high school. Last week, I played mixed doubles at a tournament. I was at the net, and as I went in for a volley, the ball nicked my racquet and hit me right in the face. Now I find that I'm more afraid to play the net. I love playing net, and I'm good at it. I was fierce, aggressive, I got every shot. But now I back up more, not right at the net but more at the service box line. I want to get my orginial net aggression. How can I overcome my fear?

Don't worry about it. Just make sure you have a firm grip on your racket and see the ball hit your racket. The more you practice the better you will get. Good luck!

If you are afraid to get hit by the ball... I don't think you should come up to the net because you will be dumping every ball out of the court.
You have to over come your fear... A tennis ball can't do that much--TRUST ME.
If it was a base ball, hey then that would be something to talk about...
I used to be scared too... Then I told this older guy that was 6 " 5 and used to be 50 in the world... And you know what he did? He grabbed five balls when I was about 15 feet away, and hit them at me as hard as he could when I wasn't ready... then he said "See? that's as bad as it can get... NO girl is gonna hit that hard anyways."

So.... i mean, if you love coming to the net, you'll pull through , best luck!

After nearly 30 years of competitive tennis, I'm afraid at the net too. I'm terrified of the ball but I've learned one thing the hard way: the more afraid you are, the more likely you are to get hit/hurt. If you're flinching, you're not watching the ball or your opponent. I'm not advocating you stay in there while your opponent is getting ready to feed you a fuzz sandwich--there are times when you have to turn your back or take it in the face--but stay low and keep your racquet head up. If your racquet head dips and you're standing straight up, you can't react fast enough.

When I was a freshmen in college, one of the guys on the tennis team got sick of watching my flinch and step back every time I was at the net. He put me in front of a wall in the gym and starting firing balls at me. I will at least defend myself now--AND no one knows I'm afraid of the ball!!! If people know you're afraid of the ball, they'll hit at you every time.
p.s. be glad it's not a baseball. Tennis ball bruises go away A LOT faster!

Just forget that mistake and move on. If u let it affect u, the thought of playing at the net will scar ur memories. So, just try to practice more at the net. By doing this:
1). You will not hesitate hitting volleys
2). You will certainly improve your volleys
Just today, I was afraid of playing the net. But my partner just told me to not worry, and to just forget about. By doing this, I had some good winners.

i play tennis, and i'v gotten hit by the ball too but i dont back away i become more agressive and if the ball does happen to come to you, just block it with your raquet and be ready for the ball, just think that every point the ball will come to you, so u have to be ready for it and hit a winner =D
i know this because i'v been playing for around 5 years and my father is the president of my club and tells me what to do in all these situations.

That was just a fluke that the ball happened to nick your racket and hit you. You just need to play more up at the net until you regain your security.
