It does not make them a better person, that comes from your heart, soul and mind. A serial killer may have a PHD. I only have 2 years of college, but any ongoing education will make a person smarter. How much smarter? Depends how much they knew to begin with, IQ, and what they do with what they know. If you read a lot and are very smart, you may very well be smarter than one of your friends with a college degree. Maybe or maybe not. If it really bothers you that much-go get a degree.

Maybe it is the only thing in the world they have to be proud of. For some reason, I am always sympathetic with people who are so pitifully insecure. People like that are typically lacking in any real relationships. Now there is also the possibility that this person KNOWS that it irritates you, and so holds it up to you just to get a rise out of you.

I think you are just talking about one person in particular. If that person did not have a degree then they would just find something else to be snobby about.

People who persue continued education, often times feel they've "one upped ya". Not everyone, mind you. I know people who have Ph.D's and you would never know it. Different personalities feel like they have to be above the norm, and that piece of paper that says they completed a set amount of courses, gives them the power to do so. It isn't right, ... but it gives >them< the right.
