Good question. I actually typed Malcom X in Yahoo search engine and got a crap load of websites. There's a lot of information, here is some from:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Malcolm_X
Malcolm X (born Malcolm Little; May 19, 1925 – February 21, 1965), also known as El-Hajj Malik El-Shabazz, was a Black Muslim Minister and National Spokesman for the Nation of Islam. He was also founder of the Muslim Mosque, Inc. and the Organization of Afro-American Unity.
Some other credible websites : Hopefully that helps! --Vae

What a coincidence, I am studying him right now. He was a pimp in the early years of his life, stealing and eventually going to prison. During his years in prison, he converted to Islam and copied a whole dictionary, therefore becoming a more fluent speaker. He met Elijah Muhammed, the supposed messenger from "Allah" (the Muslim's G-D). He started making speeches against whites and saying that Islam was the best religion. In the 1960s he got murdered because people thought he was gaining too much power. If you want more information, watch the movie "Malcolm X".

Civil rights leader who differed from MLK in that he did not believe in nonviolent protest or sending olive branches to European Americans.
Born Malcolm Little;
He joined the Nation of Islam while in prison. change his name to malcolm x to reject the "name" the slaveowners gave his ancestors.
Wrote an autobiography.
He then converted to a more traditional, less African-American version of Islam and went on a Hajj, where he changed his name to Hajj Malik Al-Shabaz.
He then began to preach a more traditional approach to Islam. He was assasinated in 1965. Some say by white supremecists, some say by the Nation of Islam, some say by the government.

Most simply put a racist. But he also was a thief and a drug dealer. A truly great leader that all should look up to!
And he wasn't assassinated for standing up for the little guy, he was killed over his feud with the nation of Islam.

Without looking him up to be sure, I think he was an early black muslim, or NOI leader. Something about a raised black fist. Black power. I think he was assasinated.
ok I just looked him up, and what I said was pretty much it. He was militant against white people. Pretty much the opposite of Martin Luther King, who was for racial equality.
