Have you been affected by the tornadoes and blizzards sweeping across the US?

Tornadoes have killed at least 17 people in the southern US states of Alabama, Georgia and Missouri.

Victims included at least five people killed when a tornado ripped through an Alabama school building, and two dead when a hospital was hit in Georgia.

Do you live in the eastern US? What precautions have you taken against the storms? What more can be done to protect people from them?

I live in Arkansas. Yes, we have many tornadoes here. Just last Saturday, 6 tornadoes were reported in the state. Two tornadoes that I know of touched down in the same area. There was a lot of damage and injuries, but thankfully no fatalities.

Allot of the storms were taking here in Ontario are the aftermath of the current US storms. We're getting hit pretty hard here. On a personal level, a couple friends of mine very dear to my heart live in one of the Georgian cities that was just leveled by that tornado the other day. There phone lines are down and I can't reach them. I'm getting worried.

They said on the news tonight that tornadoes will be very deadly this spring. I live in the panhandle of Texas, and they call this "Tornado Alley". The weather here can get very scary too at times. I feel very bad for the kids from that high school.

I live in Georgia and it did indeed get pretty bad here last night. Not much you can do but wait it out and see what happens. I put my car in the garage and listened to the Weather Channel for hours to see if I needed to head down to the basement in case a tornado came thru. Fortunately, that didn't happen here.

a while in the past there replaced right into a calculation that the subsequent top in photograph voltaic activity would be larger than huge-unfold. in spite of the undeniable fact that considering the fact that then the estimates have been revised downwards and it fairly is that the subsequent top would be approximately nicely-known. besides, final I heard the top is possibly to return in the 1st a million/2 of 2013, in all possibility approximately March. on a similar time because it fairly is attainable that potential transmission would be affected, it fairly is maximum possibly the place the structures are already strained. this style of difficulty many times lasts some hours or days on the main even the place potential transmission structures are strained. potential transmission engineers many times take care of this via load laying off, it incredibly is popping off potential in some components on a similar time as protecting it in others, then swapping over, many times for an hour or ninety minutes at a time. In some structures, water warmers and air conditioners could be grew to become off remotely, and those could be grew to become off via the engineers to decrease load. lights and different structures will nonetheless paintings. As for communications, for those based on satellites there could be difficulty, in spite of the undeniable fact that satellites have particular electronics and protecting to stand up to precisely that style of difficulty. lots floor based communication is now via optical fibre cable and that cannot be affected in any respect.

Alabama is one of our neighboring states, but we didn't receive any tornadoes. Just bad storms. We even got out of school early to prepare for them.

yep, i live in Columbus and we had one area of town that was hit pretty hard. luckily, my family was only without power until about 3am this morning but nothing else. A family friend lost her house--nothing left, another friend's house was damaged....sadly, the storm pretty much hit without warning. we knew rain was expected yesterday but not aware of the tornado until it was hitting in AL.
