It seems that every pop up on the net advertises dating and there's the tag line of 'no strings fun'.
Gone are the days of romantic meals and replaced with clandestine meetings for mutual gratification, fair enough for two consenting adults but does it breed an unhealthy image for the younger generation in a society already plagued with so many unwanted and unplanned teenage pregnancies?

i dont mean one night stands, i mean the sites who suggest 'no strings fun' as a life style choice.

Man I don't even know where to begin with this one. I guess I'll start with the fact that apparently casual sex causes teenage pregnacies.

Rubbish, plain and simple. Casual sex does not cause teenage pregancies, poor choices in contraception cause teenage pregnacies and it's as simple or as complicated as that.

As for romance having been replaced by clandestine meetings revolving purely around sex, I also have to disagree, although not totally.

From personal experiance and the experiance of friends I'd say that both have become the extreme ends of the spectrum for the begining of a relationship. Sadly the person who openly admits that s/he only wants sex seems just as likelly to find a partner as the person who is a hopeless romantic and opts for the candle lit first date. (the latter for some reason generally being seen as desperate.)

Personally I think you'll find that the "younger generation" are not influnenced half as much by web sites promoting "no strings fun" as they are by programmes which promote the idea of being 30 something and single with multiple sexual partners as a goal to which you should strive.

bizzarely as a male I find that the mojority of programmes which seem to aim themselves at empowering young women generally do the exact opposite and help predispose younger women to the ideas that men who are playing the field have been trying to convince them of for decades, that no strings sex is a good idea.

I have to Agree with Blue Julie. And I guess that's strange because I am a 19 year old male, so by todays youth I should probably have 3 kids from 2 different mothers by now. But I've only ever slept with one person, who I am in a long term relationship with.

I don't agree with "no strings fun" I think it's degrading for both parties involved that they care so little about connecting with someone and only about physical gratification. But whatever, I'm strange and from the looks of it, the last of a dying breed.

Que??
soz, i's tired and feeling a bit mischievious!
yes, u r quite right
the only answer is if the Government does the right
thing and returns to the teaching of traditional
moral values which support the idea of bringing up children in a loving and secure environment. I fear, however, that it is too late.
It is more likely to be a damage limitation exercise.
Every "No Strings Fun" add should carry a Government health warning about std's.
I am aware that the youngsters of today are almost falling over themselves to join the sexual revolution. With the stats provided regarding internet sites It makes u wonder whether the whole world has gone mad! and yes, unwanted teenage pregnancies are not too clever.

Those sites are simply playing at those who are lacking depth, morals, or good sense. This is the old "swinger" mentality reinvented.
A mate's uncle (about 55) and his wife were into those things in the 1970's. I see it as nothing I would want a part of. I think familiarity and emotions, even among friends with benefits, is an essential part of good sex.

To me, "no strings" is neither fun nor romantic.
Take away the emotional connection, and the couple might as well be two animals mating, nothing more, and hardly gratifying except in the basest sense. it's a bad example to set for young people, and a lonely pursuit even for consenting adults.

Differenciate between "Romance' and "Sex". Then go out on the date.
"No Strings Romance" is just the safe way of getting on with a relationship. If a Man wants sex all He has to do is to go out with a Woman who also is interested in a sexual relationship. Easy.

God I hope not! I really like the butterflies before the date & getting to know the other person. Then again I am an old person according to my brothers & sister. I am 37.

I agree. Who wants this really? (I suppose the men aren't complaining!) but really it would be nicer if we were trying to find a decent partner we genuinely liked? Does not do much for our self - respect, does it. Perhaps people do not believe they are worth anything more ! It is a shame and it does cause problems.
