I'm considering Portland for college, and I've been told that Portland is an Austin minus ten years. I love Austin, and would like to go someplace with the same kind of vibe. (live music, cool people)
So how do they compare?
Or if you don't know Austin, what's Portland like?

Portland - rain, sleet, - lots of both. Good brew pubs, great restaurants, Powells book store - largest in the world, great shopping, lots of brew pubs, apples.

Austin - hot, hot, hot. Some great restaurants. Some think a good football team. Texas - home of the President, that alone could make you move to Texas or Portland

Weather!!!I love Austin and would choose it over Portland any day of the week. Portland is sullen and rainy a lot. It has nothing on Austin. Seriously. No comparison, really, in my book.

Austin... nicest place in Texas... but Texas is kinda hot and dry in those parts.

Portland... more trees, way more rain to grow the trees,

That's what stands out:)

College towns.
