What is your honest opinion of Americans and America? Just wondering.

I'm an Aussie but have travelled extensively in the US and know quite a few of your citizens.
Honestly, I just love the country. And would like to live there one day.
I have been in the green Card Lottery for five years now.
My sister thinks I should get one for reasons of being an American in a previous life!
The people?
Like everywhere, there are good and bad,
That may sound a bit glib, but it is true.
If you treat people well and respectfully (in any country) they will respond accordingly.
You will get detractors for every country, but not me.
I do have an opinion on American men however, at what age do they mature? They stay young for a VERY long time!

Some are loud, crass, and vastly overweight. Some also think that America is the only country that matters (of those that know that there are other countries out there in the first place!), think America has a God-given right to interfere in the business of other countries just because that country has something, usually oil, that America wants. (haven't noticed Bush diving in to save the Zimbabweans or the Sudanese..is that because they don't have oil?). And sadly, too many think that their little lives are the only important thing on this planet, irregardless of how much waste they are generating and what the climate or rainforest impact is of their gas-guzzling vehicles etc.
Others are kind, generous, friendly, environmentally-conscious, healthy, learn about the people & cultures of other countries and do not think America should be involved in the politics of other countries.
