I've seen some questions about them on here, but I'm still not quite sure exactly what one is. Can someone explain this to me? Thanks!

I've had quite a few recently myself...
Lucid dreaming means dreaming while knowing that you are dreaming. The term was coined by Frederik van Eeden who used the word "lucid" in the sense of mental clarity. Lucidity usually begins in the midst of a dream when the dreamer realizes that the experience is not occurring in physical reality, but is a dream. Often this realization is triggered by the dreamer noticing some impossible or unlikely occurrence in the dream, such as flying or meeting the deceased. Sometimes people become lucid without noticing any particular clue in the dream; they just suddenly realize they are in a dream. A minority of lucid dreams (according to the research of LaBerge and colleagues, about 10 percent) are the result of returning to REM (dreaming) sleep directly from an awakening with unbroken reflective consciousness.

Hi Kgirl24,
Being aware you're dreaming while doing it.... The idea is that with practice, you can control your dreams and experience pretty much anything your mind can dream up....

Since "dreams", are so intensely personal and anecdotal.. evidence is mostly what we have to go on, whether lucid dreaming 'works' or not is... an open question.... ;)

I put a link, below..with useful information.. :)

Thanks, for the question!;)

My regards!

Take care!

Stephen LaBerge, a popular author and experimenter on the subject, has defined it as "dreaming while knowing that you are dreaming."

you can control everything that happens. I had one once and I was on a magic carpet flying anywhere I wanted. I wish I could do something like that again in my head.
