****How long would it take to learn how to play violin?
Depends on how hard you're willing to work at it. To really get it down probably at least a year.

****How much is a violin?
If you aren't sure you really want to commit yourself to it, maybe try renting one for a few months. If you're serious about it and you're ready for a full size, they can cost lots of money. For one that is actually decent, it could cost at least $1,000. The best ones are fortunes (my friends plays proffesionally and hers was like $20,000) But again, it depends on your commitment to the instrument. If you're looking for a 1/2 size or 3/4 size, buy a pretty good one if you plan on selling it after you outgrow it. The money could help with buying a quality full size. The bow is actually a huge part of the violin too. They can cost up to like $2,000, but a good one would probably be $200 to $500. The ones that come with the violin usually aren't what you want to be using.

****How much are lessons?
The prices just keep going up year after year! I'd say depending maybe where you live, they might cost around $20-$30 for half an hour, $40-$60 an hour.

Good luck! It really is a great hobby even if you don't plan on using it as a career!

1. Q. How long would it take to learn how to play the violin?

A.Well, it depends on what you mean, even pro violinist still learn. To get good, well that all depends on your music experience and it is all on a personal basis. Violin is the hardest instrument out there, so you're not going to learn it as quickly as the recorder for example.

2. Q. How much is a violin?

A. A violin can cost anywhere from $40 to millions of $. For a beginner, im not completely shure. Mine cost about $275 and its a student violin from Cremona. I am actually renting it $15 a month. Some places, you can put 6 months of your rent fees toward buying that violin.

3. Q. How much are Lessons?

A. Again, it varies. I only pay $10 per hour and take it from a pro. That is VERY cheap. You can expect around $20 or $30. I would not suggest learning completely on your own especially since it is the hardest instrument out there and it is very easy to form bad habbits. A teacher is pretty much a must for violin for at least until you get good.

I have been playing the violin since 4th grade and I am in 8th now. If you take private lessons and practice a lot it shouldn't take very long to learn. The cost of a violin varies from age and name-brand and condition but the average cost is around $450 or so....however there are cheaper ones and very expensive ones. I don't know how much lessons are because I have never taken them but it really depends on the teacher how often you get them, where you live, and other things. Sorry I couldn't be of better help, but I hope that I helped at least a little!

There's no set answer to your questions, unfortunately. Even a small child can learn to make sound come out of a violin very quickly - but getting a nice tone and learning advanced technique depends a lot on your talent and dedication. You can buy violins very cheaply, starting at about $40, but often you get what you pay for, and a cheap violin can be very frustrating. A good secondhand "student" model is a better choice, if you visit a strings shop (luthier) they will be able to help you, and in some cases can rent you instruments which can be better for a beginner in many ways anyway. Lessons, again, vary from area to area and who you get to teach them. If you are just wanting to learn enough basic technique to finish self-teaching yourself music such as bluegrass or country, you can probably get by with a local college student or home-based teacher teaching you the basics for a nominal fee, then just going to jam sessions (some places have "1/2 speed" tune sessions about an hour before the jam, too) and practicing like crazy at home, but if you wish to be a classical violinist you're better off talking to the college professors and finding out from them where to get lessons.

I hope this helps.
