I just started reading the HP books about a year ago when I got sick and couldn't go to work for a week. I just finished the Order of the Phoenix and will begin Half-Blood as soon as I purchase it. For the longest time I stayed away from the books for two reasons: 1) thought they were for kids only and 2) my friends at church said it goes against the Bible's teaching about witchcraft. I have now come to two conclusions. The books are definitely not for kids and I absolutely enjoyed reading them. I was an English major in college so I am very picky with what I read and I think Rowling is an excellent writer. My second conclusion is that these books are so not about real witchcraft that I think Christians (and I am a Christian myself) may have gone a little overboard. I think it is sad that some even accuse Rowling of practicing real witchcraft. If only you read the books yourself you will see that the spells and other made up things are so unreal. For example, when Hermione fixes Harry's glasses on the train to Hogwarts when they first meet, she said, "Repairo." Now really, is that not so fake? Yes, the Bible does warn against practicing witchcraft but I interpret that to mean REAL witchcraft, not the made up thing in the HP books.

For decades, authors have used fantasy in their books to entertain children (and adults). Just take the books for what they are -- the reinforcement of friendships, the struggle between doing what is right and what is wrong, and something to increase the imagination in all of us.

They're great books for kids and adults alike! And honestly these days anything can be construed as satanistic by people who want to think like that. I read The Lord of the Rings when I was 11, and surely that has to be more heavy duty than Harry Potter. It's just a shame that they're made into movies so quickly instead of getting kids to actually read them and use their imaginations! J.K.Rowling is a parent herself so I don't think that she would write them as kids books if they weren't appropriate if for kids. But if a child is more sensitive than others it's the parents responsibility to decide whether they should read it or not and guide their child in the right direction.

Alot of people try to make a hoopla out of all the controvery going on with the witchcraft used in HP, however, I think these books are a GREAT read for everyone! The movies, I admit are a bit creepy (only because of the goblins and Voldemort) but the books, I am sure, will make a lasting impression througout history. They really encourage kids to read. I love HP and I don't think reading them is a sin because it's only fantasy. Right!?

For starters it is fiction.
Where would we be without The Brother's Grimm. Disney, or The Aesopp Fables.
JK Rowling is a genius, and if only kids would work out why she uses the words Potter, Argus, Loony Lupa, Ghost, Wizard, Dumbledore, Manticore, Cerberus, Sphinx, Minerva, Snape, Dursley, Basilisk, Troll, Goblin, Aragog, Unicorn, Agrippa, and Hengist, as well as Umbridge, they'd be a happier bunch of adolescents than the ones at Hogwarts.

I think its a good book for children and young adults. Its not evil or demonic. I don't think that the actors will be winning any awards. They are likeable but not extremely talented. Why would it be a sin? I don't recall it being said anywhere in the bible about watching or reading fiction. I honestly think that the Author ripped off several other book series. But at least its getting people reading again.

i love it. movies, books, everything. except some of the actors. but whatever.. im not religious, so i dont care if it goes against the bible or anything. i think anyone can read it and i dont get why some parents go nutters over the book. they make a huge deal to ban it, when all they have to do is make sure THEIR child doesnt read it. they're ridiculous in my opinion.
