Ummm...I partially agree, I think its certainly part of the pie. I think commerce is also a pretty big factor. Afterall, how a society chooses to spend its currency is a pretty good indicator of what that society values.
Science and technological advancement are also good benchmarks for guaging a society. For instance, from 1980 to 2000, there were more than 20,000 international patent applications coming from South Korea (pop. of about 50 million). During the same time period, there were close to 400 international patent applications coming from the entire Muslim world (pop. greatly exceeding 1 billion). An entire essay can be written about what this says about the two cultures.
There are also other institutions, such as education or the legal system, which I think are useful.

agree, nice idea, but you can't totally ignore trends becasue of it not being the biggest trend. But looking at the big picture, you will never understand the true nature of society by looking at those things alone because they are constantly changing. Try focusing on yesterdays dominant trends and comparing them to today/

disagree, you hv to take a close view with their personal life n
characteristics, then u know their nature. b'coz art, music n fashion does show u a part of the nature not as a whole. anywhere art n fashion often being influenced by global trend from outside country, this may not reveal the nature of the society as itself.

I think it's a good way, but I don't think it's the best way, so Disagree.

I think studying etiquette or children's education is a far better way to understand the nature of a society.

Disagree. One could follow all of those areas and never realize that sports and entertainment are the predominant values of the United States.
