My friend and i were arguing about The genre of GNR he says it metal but i say its like a rock band wich one is it?

They were a hard rock band. BUT when they first came out were labeled a metal band....but consider what was "metal" at that time.

GNR isn't really metal. "Hard rock" at best. "80s rock" is probably a better fit, although much more general. They fit in the same genre as AC/DC, but not nearly as good. If Axel Rose had any kind of singing talent, maybe they could be something else.

Its a rock band but some of their songs sound like metal...

They're just a rock band. Metal is like Motorhead, Pantera, and Slayer.

Well, technicly you both are correct, guns are a glam metal, hardrock and blues band.They have most hardrock songs, but at that time they were categorized as metal, glam metal (apetite for destruction, lies, and also have some blues songs), later hardrock and blues (use your illusion dual album) and finally punk cover (shpagetti incident).
