i think it is a joke, plus your taking a chance when you buy one, somebody might already be using your key code and if that happens your system is worthless its not like xp were one key can be used on more than one pc, your SCREWED, right now the new thing is brute force in getting a key from microsoft aint no telling what will come next, if microsoft wasnt so greedy and charged a reasonable amount it would cut down a lot on this piracy

I too am fairly unhappy with Vista. Here are a few reasons why.
1. The company I work for thought we should start migrating to Vista, so all new HP computer orders would come with vista already installed. It turns out that 75% of our Engineering software is NOT VISTA COMPATIBLE!!
2. I was also told that you can run into problems when you upgrade your hardware and will need to re-verify your cd-key. You are allowed to re-verify your cd-key ONLY ONCE! then you'll need to purchase a new cd-key. I think this is just retarded!
3. Microsoft will eventually force all hardcore gamers into purchasing Vista because DirectX 10 will ONLY BE AVAILABLE WITH VISTA! There will be no upgrade for your XP operating system DirectX version 9. If you are serious about gaming and want the best possible gaming experience without having to switch to vista, this probably will be enough for you to pick up a bootleg version of Vista.
Linux here I come!

I think they are, but they also have to do this to make up for the revenue lost to pirates. When they started the Windows Genuine Advantage program, it detected over 114,000,000 pirated copies of XP. Of those 114,000,000 copies that came up as pirated, only 50,000 people contacted them. Of those 50,000 about 40,000 had legit copies. That means there are over 100,000,000 copies of Windows that are in use that were not purchased. Figure $100 each for an upgrade from an old OS, and they're looking at lost revenue of $11,400,000,000.00. Like any other business, they have to pass the cost of loss due to theft on to legitimate customers. Then criminals use the cost to justify stealing it again.
You can't say that Microsoft is forcing you to steal their work, because they're not. You do have other options. If you want a free OS there's Linux and BSD, and plenty of apps for both. But people are both greedy and lazy and prefer to steal Windows because they don't want to learn Linux or are unable to understand it, and so the rest of us pay for their greed and stupidity. If people weren't so greedy that would cut down on piracy.

I agree with you. But what choice do we have? They keep upgrading and many people do not even know how to operate these computers. And the prices are unreal to keep up with the upgrades. You spend thousands of dollars only to find out later that you are not up to date. I think maybe the thing to do is buy into Microsoft stock and get rich...If you can buy in before it upgrades too...(lol) I just bought a vista laptop and believe me I know what your talking about. It has been a small fortune to buy the PC from my cell phone company. All so I do not have to walk around with wires. You are right though piracy is getting so bad I sometimes feel like Captain Jack Sparrow... But matey ya got to do what ya got to do...Shiver me Timbers and Shake that booty possible new terms for Internet users...Maybe a new company other than Microsoft will be called Black Beard with cross bows for their insignia.

Heck ya they are over-charging. But ya know what? They will continue to do so until they decide for themselves to lower the price - which will be never.
Business licenses and pre-installs on OEM computers make up the majority of their sales - normal people are a tiny percentage of their overall sales volume, so they don't really care. Most people will not even notice the price...
No, changing the price it won't cut back on piracy - removing the need to pirate it at all is the only way to stop piracy.

The price is too "$$$pricey$$$".But look on the bright side there are other options around Try googling for GNU OS like Fedora, Solaris and other linux OS. With Java applications/applets the possibility are limitless. Now there is also some compatibility issues with the vista OS seems like some operators are unable to get support for their own products using MS OS. Maybe there are some $$$portability$$$ issues involved?

I wouldn't even consider buying vista. It's resource hungry plus Microsoft has all these ridiculous rules about key codes and validation. Best let them keep it. Unfortunately any new pc will eventually come loaded with the rubbish.
As for the price, you know you have to fund Bill's philanthropist leanings.

It's their product and they can charge however much they want for it. If you think it's too high, just don't buy it and send a message to Microsoft that it's too expensive. I personally won't buy it until it's cost effective and has gotten more positive reviews.

microsoft charges way too much for a lot of things. good thing other companies are STARTING to push in on their almost-monopoly. i hope apple comes out with something that kick's vista's ***. vista is alot like current mac program anyway in my opinion.
