My annoying little bro has been telling us for months what day the lunar eclipse will be on, but he doesn't know what time it starts. So what time is the lunar eclipse tomorrow (3/3/07)?

Hi Panama City!

If you're in Panama City FL, the moon will rise, already eclipsed, at sunset. Watch the eastern horizon as the sky grows darker, and you'll see the ghostly lunar disk, eclipsed, as it gradually becomes visible.

The first sliver of the moon reappears from the earth's dark shadow at 5:58 p.m. Central Time, just 15 minutes after the sun has fully set. If you have not yet spotted the lunar disc, you'll see it now. You have 1 hour 14 minutes of partial eclipse to go, before the partial eclipse ends at 7:12 p.m., Central Time.

These times are the same, by the way, for the entire Central Time Zone. The further west one lives in your time zone, however, the later the sun sets, so that west of the Mississippi the total phase of the eclipse ends before the moon comes up. You can still see some of the partial eclipse all the way west to Utah.

For people in the U.S. it starts before sunset and before the Moon rises Saturday evening. If you live on the east coast you may catch the last part of the eclipse just at Moon rise, which will occur just at sunset. For the rest of the U.S. only a partial eclipse will be visible. People on the west coast will not see any of it. You need to be in Europe or Africa to see the whole thing.
