In the future you should take ibuprofen right before you go in to have your braces tightened or adjusted. It should help offset the pain. As for now, I feel your pain. Try taking ibuprofen or tylenol and using heat compresses on your face, along your jaw. I also recommend sleeping through it if at all possible. You will get used to it over time. In the end it will all be worth it!

I had braces for three years(7th,8th &9th grade) your friend told you salt and warm water swishing probably, which will help loosen the gums faster but doesnt do much for the pain. My advice is to take something for the pain like Tylenol or Motrin but only if you know your not allergic, also only take the recomended dosage (taking more wont work faster and can be very dangerous). My mom always made my favorite meals after ever ortho visit which sucked cause I couldnt enjoy while my mouth hurt duh. (she was just trying to help)
Oh yea also you know how you get those raw spots sometimes from you braces rubbing the inside of your lips chloraseptic spray really helps, and its cheaper than stuff like ambasol.
Good luck with your beautiful work in progress smile & God Bless

P.S. always wear your retainer when your done with your braces
(at least at night)

I'm only 10 , but I have had braces fore 2 years ( since 3rd grade ), and yes everytime my braces were tightened they hurt. Try some tylonol. It works fine if you just give it some time. Don't take to much though . Also if your wire off your braces are poking your gums then try asking your orthadonist for some wax. Ask them , they will know what you mean !

I think you mean warm salt water. That might help. Also take something like Extra Strength Tylenol, Advil or Aleve. They also sell stuff you can apply to your gums that will sort of numb them - - Ambisol. Just check at the local Walmart or drugstore and ask them what section they sell it in.

all you can do is take a Tylenol, but the pain will go away in about a week, since you will be getting cuts inside your mouth you can always use wax, they sell a wax special for braces at drugstores and you can use it to sleep so your braces won't bother

OWW. I remember those days. Take ibuprofin or Advil. It helps. It is going to hurt no matter what if you don't take medicine. I feel your pain! It can't be prevented. Hang in there! It is all worth it in the end!

that remedy sounds like it would work for someone that just recently had thier teeth pulled. but if your teeth are hurting, its more than likely you just had your braces put in or... your teeth are actually shifting and becoming straightened. best thing you could ever do is to see a dentist!!!

did the dentist give you any wax to chew? its normal for you to get pain, try and take some ibruprofen to take away the pain, if the pain is still there after a couple of days, go back to your dentist and see if he can prescribe you anything, hope this helps :) x

You should use Tylenol or this jelly stuff sorry I forgot the name. But it helped my sister so much. Please don't scare me I'm getting braces in the summer :(.
