Actually it is possible, rare but possible, to have very low levels of HCG . Its possible that there is an issue with the pregnancy, but every women is diffrent. I have to say though, that this again, is a very very rare condition, and more than likely if you are testing negative for HCG levels you probably arent pregnant, or its just to early to test.

Your body starts producing hcg after implantation, which usually occurs 7-10 days past ovulation. Each woman can be different as far as the amount of hcg she produces, but it has to be there to be pregnant. The amount should double each day, at least in the beginning. If you think you are, just wait until you miss your period. Your levels should definitely be up by then. If you're still in doubt, go get a blood test. And then you could also talk to your doc about what's keeping your period from coming.

The baby begins producing HCG after implantation. HCG is what tells the corpus luteum to continue to produce progesterone so that the uterine lining is not shed. W/o HCG, a pregnancy couldn't be sustained, to my knowledge.

I've heard of women who could not get a positive urine test during pregnancy. PErhaps a difference in how her body excretes HCG? As far as I know, they get positive blood tests.

Low HCG or HCG that doesn't double in the proper time can be a sign of impending miscarriage or of a tubal pregnancy.

No, the HCG is the pregnancy hormone. However, if you are testing earl it may be undetectable, because it increases as time goes on after a missed period.
