There were two types of wrestling. the WWF on TV, in the boxing ring is for the show.
The second type on a gym map, is a sport. Points are given for moves. ie: escape, getting on the top, and the match is won if both back shoulder blades touch the mat at the same time is a Pin, and wins the match. Go to a high school match, and ask the person your setitng next to to explain some of the points and the moves. I'll warn you that when their kid is wrestling, don't talk to them, they will be engaged in the match.

the wrestling that is on tv is for entertainment purposes only. Real wrestling what collage studnets and younger do is acctually a sport, when you start you are equal, you try to get a hold on your opponant utill you can shoot, which is when you go for their legs and get them on the mat, depending on the grade level that you are interested learning about (like in most sports have different period lengths) the person with the most points for releases change of controll or the first person to take their opponant to the mat and pin both sholders to the matt for 3 seconds wins the match
