I've been serving for 10 years, fine dining the last 4. I'm in college but I really wish I could just serve for the rest of my life (I know I can't though). I'm very responsible and not a huge partier, I have a 3 year old. Why do I love it so much?

I love serving too. You can do it your whole life and get paid bad *** bucks too. Just turn your job into a career. Front of house managers make great money and you can still do what you love!

Nothing wrong with being a server. You can always tell the wait staff personnel that love their jobs, they make you meal enjoyable and pleasant. Even though you are in college, have you ever thought about becoming a head waiter or managing a restaurant? If you love the job so much, you would more than likely be excellent at it, demanding that your wait staff be good at what they do. Heck, why not go all out and maybe own your own restaurant. I'm not sure what you are taking in college, but maybe some business courses and some classes on how to run a business might not be a bad idea. Nothing is more fun than to go into a nice restaurant, eat a good meal, enjoy nice surroundings and have a great server to top it all off. Think about it.

A lot of people really enjoy working in the service industry. The camradarie and type of co-workers that you find in a restaurant varies from those which you will find in a business office and it is usually easier to make friends. Working directly with people and having a direct effect on their visit can also be very enjoyable, especially when they reinforce that sense of a job well done with tips and thanks. A lot of people look back and say "that restaurant (or bar) job that I had was so much fun."

I wished I owned a restaurant--I would hire you in a heartbeat and pay you well enough to be able to do what you love and still support a family! I would settle for you working at my favorite restaurant and be MY server...I am a generous tipper and overly appreciate a good server...maybe you can get a job in a top-notch restaurant where you could get paid better and get better tips?

I've been at it for almost 20 years myself.
And I still love it!!
If I didn't I would quit tomorrow.
You must have a good boss and nice co-workers, that can make all the difference.
The $$ ain't too bad either, huh?

You love it so much probably because it is something that fits your personality type. Perhaps its the variety of different people you get to interact with who knows. I am guessing you just like to work with the public and hope that whatever you are going to college for involves working with people.

No,you're not crazy! It's always good to love what you're doing. Not everyone does! As long as you can support your child doing that then I say ,more power to you!!

wish there were more like you .. maybe then I woiuld LIKE to go out to eat .. nothing worse than a cranky server
