ok,the worst thing you want to do is not and i meen not to buy a toshiba,i have bought two brand new,and the hard drive went bad on both in 5 days and 2-3 weeks and i had a friend bought the expensive one and the hard drive went bad in it about in 5 days,do not get a hp,we have had 2 hp's,they went bad after the warrenty expires!we have had one dell, excellent, would recommend, but it was a desktop, all the toshibas was a laptop,a dell lasted us so far i think about 3 years, and our friend bought it and it is still going,i bought a acer laptop, the one with a web camera, windows vista home premium, and if buy a laptop or desktop, dont get it with home basic,it is slow, and i mean slow.
but the acer that i am writing this with is excellent with a intel pentium dual core prccesser, wich is great for college, it is a awesome computer,lightweight,s-video port, dvd burner, and she gots a digital camera, she can put the card in it to view the pics.
i would get a dell,or acer!they are easy to set up,acer makes good products.

I just bought a Toshiba satellite series..My girlfriend bought one too and so did her son.. They have very good buys at Circuit City. One thing I found out is, be sure you make sure her cell phone company has a compatible way to link up. Otherwise she will have to go to what is considered a hot spot to link to the Internet. It is such a competitive business that the salesperson will tell you that you have to have a particular cell phone to work with the laptop. Be sure and call the cell phone company first you may save yourself a head ache. All I can say is my girlfriend has had her computer for about 5 months and she loves it and she is a graphic artist and her son is a engineer from Rolla and he recommended it. So me I am falling in love with my lap top just ask my husband. (LOL) I know your daughter will love anything her daddy buys her.

Don't buy an hp. They will break right after the warranty expires. I would recommend getting her an apple macbook. Apple care is great. They aren't that expensive and it's small enough to take to class. If not a macbook then get an ibm thinkpad. I have a friend who dropped his down the stairs and i survived. If you want to go cheaper than that then get a dell with a good warranty.

I would highly recommend the Toshiba Satellite notebook. The new ones should have Windows Vista. All of the Satellites have wireless internet, and plenty of memory to store all of your files. Some Satellites have a keypad on the keyboard. Some models with the keypad are: Toshiba Satellite M65-S9092, and the Toshiba Satellite P105-S6147. They are both nice looking computers.

For starters I bought a laptop with Vista, and needless to say it was terrible.. I do not have it anymore. I exchanged it 3 times and it still did not work right.. My advise is to find a laptop with Windows XP or lower. My opinion on the best would be and Hewlett Packard. Good Luck..

I prefer HP that comes completely set up with back up restore disks. I would suggest that be at least 80 gigs hard drive, 512 RAM, pentium 4 processor. But the standard is probably much higher now.

you can buy any.
check out the after sales service records of any company before buying a computer,
HP
Dell
Compaq,
Gateway.
poor after sales service,
if your going to buy a laptop computer buy it from a small local computer shop. not a department store.. you will get a better after sales service, from a small computer shop, and should anything go wrong with it you can always take it back to them...
from a big store you will have to send it back to the manufactures at your own cost,, after 30 days

If you are looking for a PC, definatly get a Sony VAIO. If you are willing to spend a little more money, get her an Apple MacBook.
