Ask ten people and you'll probably get at least five different answers. Off the top of my head, I would say Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey.
But if you want an "official" answer, the Census Bureau has defined regions and divisions of the U.S. One of its divisions is called "Middle Atlantic". Surprisingly, it consists of New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania. Follow the link below to see a map of all the regions and divisions.
