No, it's not too young, as long as it's kept natural. I started at 12 with brown mascara, a neutral taupe eyeshadow, clear lip gloss, and some translucent powder for shine. I always looked very natural, or so I'm told.

Young girls probably shouldn't start any younger than that though (unless it's for Halloween or creative play at home)- I feel that makeup and fashion industries have a tendency to put pressure on "perfection" for girls that are too young to properly assimilate the information. In particular, the idea of young girls in beauty pageants makes my head spin.

Of course, it's important for young girls to be able to play with their makeup too...I remember buying a MASSIVE eyeshadow palette from Revlon with all these crazy colors in it.. My mom and I had a lot of fun playing with the different shades together. :)

So I guess my advice would be for young girls to keep it simple when they're young, but to still have fun at home and experiment. Once they hit 16 or so, then it's fine to start wearing more.

I never started wearing make-up because I never wanted to. I was afraid that I would look worse than if I had left well enough alone. Later in life I developed seborrhea and the doctor told me to put nothing on my face. No problem for me since I never wore make-up anyway. Some parents make their daughters wait until they are 16 and only if they have some income to buy it with. Invent your own standard and stick to it. Don't go by someone else's standard. That's how some kids get into trouble. It's hard to stand up to whining and complaining kids. Especially if you've had a hard time doing it in the past. I believe that 12 years old is too young for make-up. Children are rushing into adulthood nowadays and paying a terrible price for it. Who says that make-up makes you an adult anyway?

No I think its pretty normal. I started wearing makeup when I was 12 and so did most of my friends. Just make sure it's not over load make sure it's a little bit more on the natural side.

I began wearing makeup at the age of 12 behind my mother's back, but then she gave me permission when I was 14 yrs old. Looking back, yes it is too young. She is still a "little" girl. I think children should be kept as children as long as they are still in that age range. There is no rush to grow up. You are only a child for a short time, but an adult for the rest of your life. And parents' play an important role in preserving their "childhood" while they are still in that age range.

What do I feel is a good age for makeup? Perhaps 14, 15. That is when they are actually beginning to get more exposure to what life has to offer as an adult , by entering high school, the age allowed for them to begin employment, etc, and they begin to get a little more comprehension because of this.

And I am only 31 yrs of age. But life has taught me a lot and I think I grew up too fast. I regret it. But I hope my advice can help others by just taking your time in life and actually living your age.

At 12 years, you are still a kid and no matter all the makeup in the world that you wear,or the sexy clothes you put on, that is exactly how you are percieved by society, as a KID!!!!!!!

I started when I was in 7th grade. I was about 11 or 12. It is okay for that age to wear makeup as long as they understand how its used. Obviuosly you dont want your twelve year old daughter wearing heavy makeup. Light eyeliner and mascara and lip gloss should be all that is needed for a twelve year old. Make sure you teach her how much is 'too much' and the correct way to apply it.

I think 12 is too young, once you get older, you'll be more appreciate to the natural look. Twelve-yeal-old's skin is perfect, why do you need makeup for? I started wearing makeup when I wa about 16. If your daughter insisting on wearing makeup, that's fine, just don't overdo it. Don't say anything when you think she uses too much, bu always tell her how good she looks when you really like it.

I think lipgloss I could wear at about 12 but full makeup not until 14-15. My mother had a thing about no mascara though until I was like 16 or so!

I was twelve. I've been wearing makeup on a daily basis ever since, but when I started, it was only mascara and lipstick/gloss for a few years. As for your daughter, I'd say it's an okay age, but it depends on where you live; i.e. makeup at a younger age is probably more "accepted" in larger cities or metropolitan areas than in small towns. Hope this helps!

I started to wear makeup when i was 12 too. It's not too young that's the average age when girls start being interested in wearing makeup but it is better not to put too much just keep it natural. so it will look appropriate for her age.like maybe using a compact powder with clear mascara and a natural lipgloss. when the girl get older the more makeup. so girls start either at 12 or 13. perfect age.
