an applet needs to be attached to java, how can i do that?

you have to install jdk. in the jdk itself they provide applet viewer.

you can download jdk from the following url:

http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp

an applet is normally embedded server side. you need to make sure you have java installed ( http://www.java.com/en/download/index.jsp ) on your computer, then visit the website that is serving the applet (an applet is like a Yahoo Game window, that's an applet).
