Ahh, if it can be anything? I would definitely go with controversy in the entertainment (or any) industry between our era now and an era in the past (like Elizabethan England - the time of Shakespeare). There's a lot of research on both, and you could totally research the prejudices that went on back then. I just got an assignment like this for English class, and I thought it was pretty interesting.

There are several interesting topics, however, you need to specify your particular area of interest. Government, Economics, Medicine, Occultism.. to name a few

I thnk something on medicine would be most interesting. Like maybe are doctors not getting paid enough or too much. Is a certian ________ (fund) getting too much $ or not enough.
Even something about school like uniforms or fattening lunches!!

Depending on your age and the subject, you could write that Canada and the USA should become one country........... it has been suggested lots of times so there should be plenty of good material out there.
