There is no small hole to stick a paperclip in. Is there a way to open it without taking the computer apart?

it's the compact disk drive. it's not even showing up when I go to "my computer" I can't right click on it or anything. It basically just disappeared and the cd is still stuck in there. I'ved turned the computer on and off many times. I've pressed eject lots of time and nothing. The CD just makes a sound like it's running all the time but won't run or open up.

What else is going on. Usually the problem lies in a program locking the drive such as burner software etc.

You can try using the Adaptec Direct CD Wizard. The wizard should eject the CD for you. To open the CD Wizard, you open your Start Menu, point to Programs, then point to Adaptec CD Wizard, the click Direct CD Wizard. Then, when you look next to where your clock is on your computer, on the bottom right of the screen, you will see a picture of a CD and its drive. Double-click that picture. Click next, but then make sure that you're going to eject the right drive. Then click next, and the CD should eject. If that doesn't work, take a paper clip, like you mentioned, and stick it into that hole in the drive. Just put it in there and eject it manually. There's nothing wrong with doing that. That's why that hole is there.

I've had good luck repeatedly hitting the eject button on restart... but be poised to grab the disk, because this approach guarantees the door will be reclosing quickly.

Either press the eject button on your disc drive, or click 'My Computer' and right click your disc drive and click 'eject'.
