I need to change my virus blocker. I have this cheap one which came when my computer was updated (E-Trust, it came free). Anyways so I want to know the best anit-virus, one which I can try to download at free trail first.

I want it to block against viruses, pop ups, identity theft, hacking, ect. I use AIM, LimeWire, search websites, have a MySpace, and E-Mail so something which you would recommend to keep me protected from anything that can/could come from those sites.

For a good antivirus I would suggest doing an on-line search, I use www.info.com, and enter "top 10 antivirus suites", and see what you come up with. I have used Norton antivirus, I just bought the upgrade and had a problem. It took my hours to get ahold of someone and all they could manage to tell me over and over is its not Norton.....I could barely understand them...... I uninstalled Norton and have never had another problem since.

Now for something your not going to want to hear, limewire is going to cause you problems. Im guessing you are having problems now and suspect your current antivirus is to blame.... I had a friend that tried several antivirus programs, I tried to tell him limewire has adware and spyware, these 3rd party programs that come with limewire can damage your windows operating system. After his 3rd antivirus trial, I finally talked him into dumping limewire, his mysterious problems went away. Not to mention that a peer to peer program, "limewire", allows people to directly access your hard drive to get information, this is a hackers dream, you have invited people thru your firewall, and with some effort they can hack your computer, or give you a virus, or install more adware, like a keylogger.
As long as you run programs like limewire, your making yourself more vulnerable. Its like bringing a thief into your house then asking him to lock the doors to keep the bad people out......

Norton offers a 60 day free trial. However, Norton seems to like to annoy its users with constant updates and notices that arent even important.

Check with your ISP. They often provide all that for free with service. I know Yahoo DSL offers a good program that doesnt annoy you as much as Norton does.

If they dont, go with the Norton trial but be warned they will annoy the heck out of you. Plus after 30 days, every time you boot up, they annoying with a buy now message that lasts the remaining thirty days.
