i'm taking an interior design class and i have to answer a question for a "client". a teenage girl has a large, colorful bedroom. one small wall is a hot pink, the small one with a window is a medium blue, a main wall is a rich purple (not pinkish or bluish) and the other main wall is a deep, bright green. all of the walls have a yellow and an orange stripe running horizontally around the room. she loves the room, but wants to tone it down a bit WITHOUT repainting it. i need specifics and i'm out of ideas so....yeah....
PS the family has a $50 budget to work with.

Get a sheer white material and hang it on one of the main walls like a curtain. The color will show through--but it will be lighter. Or you could hang large poster sized black and white art.

work with the curtains. get 1 which can cover much of the sunlight shining in, then it might make the room's colours tone dwn. or try to add sum details on the wall, e.g ask her for sum picture frames to be put up, put a huge clock, or add cupboards onto the wall etc. if nt,
take dwn her horizontal yellow and orange stripes, n replace them with anthr nt as bright colour..

hope it helps..

Do a white wash over all the walls to tone the colors down.

to tone down a color, just use a glaze.a glaze is made with a complimentary color that is mix 4or 5 to 1,that means 1part paint to 4or 5 parts glaze.you can buy ready made glazes, but its a lot cheaper to make your own.they sell just the glaze.when you mix a glaze with the paint of your choice it no longed is paint, kinda like a translucent product.once you are Happy with the results, then you can tone down by applying glaze with a sponge, rag, brush, tools,or even a child could use their little hand for an effect.Lowe's and depot have very good examples.
