wow these people dont follow the 9ers at all. sure clements was overpaid, but thats what the market is, so what can you do about it? if we didnt overpay him some other team will either way he gets his money. 9ers needed him. 9ers defense was horrible, but adding clements and michael lewis along with pro bowler walt harris and shawntae spencer and keith lewis makes the backfield more solid. we have 8 draft picks in the first 4 rounds. we can get carricker or okeye. and if we sign joey porter, put him along lawson and brandon moore and our defense just got much better. still not one of the best in the league but its a huge improvement. the new CBA is causing all this. all FAs will get more money than they deserve. i wouldnt be surprised if a 29/30 yr old adalius thomas gets 80 mill also.

Wake up guys. *shakes head* I don't know why all you guys are suprised. You must not follow football much. This past season the salary cap went up. It makes perfect sense that salaries are going to increase. That's how business works, when more money is available more money is spent. A shutdown corner is one of the most expensive positions in the NFL. Top corner this offseason + in his prime + salary cap increase + a team with about $40 million dollars in cap room = big contract. If Clements didn't get it from the Niners he would have gotten it someplace else without a doubt.

Ticket prices are not going to up solely because of one guy. Especially in San Fran where they have enough trouble filling up the stadium. C'mon now be logical.

Also, it's the most spent on a DEFENSIVE free agent.

And free agency isn't going to break the NFL. It's seemed to work for the last 25+ years hasn't it?

HORRIBLE DEAL FOr 49ers. Clements only had 11 picks over the last 3 years. Free agency is going to ruin the NFL cuz the teams salary cap went up 30% over the last two years and agents are going to ask for waaaaay more money for there players. This is going to boost up ticket sales soooo hiiiiiigh uppppp. ooooooohhhhh noooooooooo!

That is one of the problems with free agency, teams will over pay for players. Clements is a good DB but he is not the best, he isnt even in the top five. I am surprised at the 9ers. Overpaying for players is what the Redskins do and there team can never gel. Note to 9er fans- your team wont be any better than it was last year.

The Niners got themselves into bad trouble several years ago with the salary cap. They are just now getting out of trouble. And now this. I guess some people don't learn from past mistakes.

just goes to show you, if they (meaning the NFL GMs) think you could be or come close to being a Neon Deon, they'll throw cash at you like there is no tommarrow.

Jeez, thank God NFL contracts are not guarrenteed!
