Sounds to me like a statement form an investor with not a great deal of experience. I suppose you would rather have the company give the money to the CEO like HD has done?
If you check out the stocks that have a 10 year history of raising their dividends you will find out that they have performed better than about 80% of the stocks available for investment.

I need them. I like to sit and make sure I get paid to effectively lend my money to the corporation. I also like to kind of watch the dividend rates as a minimalist estimator of company performance.

They could do away with those paychecks they keep handing out to people with jobs, too!
And the interest banks pay on savings accounts, who needs it?
Are you a fool or do you just play one on TV? What exactly is your problem with publically held companies (owned by shareholders) sharing their profits with the people that own the company (the shareholders)?

It is worth it I know of some that pay me more in divedends than what I payed for the stock and they are great income for retired people
