Nashville City Paper, TN - 5 hours ago
If the Tennessee Titans were going to make a splash in the free-agent market for a cornerback, the number of quality available players was reduced by one when the New England Patriots placed the franchise tag on Asante Samuel on Friday.

Samuel had 10 interceptions for the Patriots this season, and along with Buffalo’s Nate Clements, was generally regarded as the top free-agent cornerback available in unrestricted free agency, which begins March 2.

Now, instead of testing the free agent waters, Samuel will be scheduled to make $7.79 million for one season.

There has been plenty of speculation that the Titans might make a play for a free agent cornerback to pair opposite Adam “Pacman” Jones. There apparently, however, are at least some in the Titans organization who believe Clements could be superior to Samuel in terms of what the Titans do.

The Titans really need this guy. He is one of the best corners in the league, and Pac-Man may or may not be released. The Titans have about 20 mil in cap room, so they can definitely afford to sign him. And apparently, a lot of free agents are tempted by the idea of playing with Vince. I think he is goin to Tenn

Thank you Buffalo.
Now the 49ers don't have to worry about secondary the coming year, just draft a few DL and maybe some WR and we'll be set for the playoffs.
