There is no reason. Blues either speaks to you or it doesn't. I have always loved the blues and can't understand why most people don't "get" it. There are a multitude of talented blues artists but generally, they aren't popular and despite their talent, go widely unnoticed. The exceptions are those that cross genres - like Stevie Ray Vaughn, or like BB King who has somehow managed to attract more than blues fans. A lot of modern rock has its roots in blues - did you know John Mayer was hugely influenced by Stevie Ray Vaughn? I'm always amazed when I can go to a free blues concert and listen to amazingly talented artists and wonder why the majority of the public doesn't feel the same thing I do and why these artists aren't more commercially successful. Why does it attract me and why not the majority of others? I guess that's what you're asking. I don't really know, but I'm glad that I'm one of the minority and I don't have to fight the crowds to see the music I love.

I've been wondering the same thing about rap music. Why would someone choose to listen to that?
Blues is something most everyone can relate to, so it transcends oneself and connects people in a way similar to religious worship. Yeah, that's BS, but I think it sounds good.

People listen to blues for the feeling and it's simplicity.To top it off blues songs aren't all sad! Some are very upbeat and happy!
